On Wednesday the 22nd of November our team travelled to The Midland Hotel in Manchester to attend the two day SOCEX Fraud and Financial Crime conference as headline sponsors. Altia-ABM are founding partners of the Serious and Organised Crime Exchange series of conferences.
Practitioners and managers from across the UK and beyond gathered at SOCEX to examine the challenges faced by those responsible for investigating this rapidly evolving crime type. At the conference, delegates had the opportunity to discuss and exchange best practice relating to the detection, prosecution and strategic management of fraud, money laundering and all aspects of financial crime.

Mick Beattie (National Coordinator, NPCC Financial Crime Portfolio, Derbyshire Police HQ, welcomed delegates and sponsors to the conference followed by an Opening Address by Nick Downing (Assistant Chief Constable, Head of Serious Crime, Kent and Essex Police). Over the two days we were lucky enough to sit in on some of the talks given by Adrian Phillips (CPS), Lynne Henderson (CPS) and Hannah Sidaway (Specialist Prosecutor, West Midlands Complex Casework Unit) on ‘Disclosure in Financial Crime – A Prosecutors’ Perspective’, Joshua Farbridge (Investigations Manager, Charity Commission for England and Wales) on ‘Countering serious abuses in the Charity Sector’ and Heather Chalk (Higher Intelligence Officer, RIS Financial Development Team), Robert Laurent (RIS Financial Development Team) and Graham Wenn (Detective Constable, Metropolitan Police Service) on ‘Crowdfunding – Criminals using the web to make and move money’.

We also spoke to a number of our customers at the conference as well as meeting new people who came by our exhibition stand to find out more about our products.

On the evening of the 22nd we were delighted to sponsor the Keith Hughes Awards for the 13th year where the very best individuals and teams working in financial investigation in the UK are celebrated.

We very much look forward to supporting and attending the next strategic SOCEX conference at Chesford Grange on the 22nd and 23rd of May 2019.
